Condolences
I was the minister at St. Stephen's on the Hill United Church, Sudbury for twelve years, and in that time, I enjoyed my visits to your parents home in Hanmer. I think I visited there more often than I did at other parishoners- because your mom and dad were so kind and so much fun to talk with. I loved to hear their stories of a long and happy marriage. And our visits always had to include a cup of tea. Your dad even gave me a tomato plant one year. He loved to show off his greenhouse. May God's peace and healing fill the empty places in your hearts right now. Your mom and dad are remembered with love. Warmly, Catherine
As I remember Mom, I see the times we talked about her smelt excursions, especially with her youngest sister Brenda and husband Bill. The talk of rain and eating them right at the waters edge, often wondering whether they were even cleaned gives me a laugh as I picture her retelling this story. Or the time I got a "Charlie Farquarson" book at Christmas and proceeded to read it to her. She enjoyed that time with laughter as she did many others such as the time she walked me to school for my very first day(grade one). She dutifully left me with the principal and started home onlyh to find me by her side when she was not even half way home. I will remember her ability to pick berries; only dad could pick more than her. She was always so patient with dad and I as we were always away somewhere fishing or hunting small game. She enjoyed accompanying dad and I when we hunting partridge by driving the back roads by the farm in Massey or around Markstay. She would eat everything we got except rabbit...she was so convinced they looked like a skinned cat as she simply couldnt face that. It was a hoot to have her with us because she really enjoyed the outdoors. I will also remember the many days she played canasta with uncle Wifred, Auntie Gwen and dad, even though dad made up the rules to suit himself and she seldom won. Or the regular making of preserves from the berries or vegetables from the garden and the annual dark and light Christmas cakes. Now Mom, you can find out if those smelts were cleaned....be well and know that you were and are loved.
Ted and family. Our deepest sympathy. Stay strong and know you are in our prayers.
Aunt Elda was truly one special lady. I know that she had so many happy to greet her and that I have another beautiful angel watching over me.
