Obituary of Jean Brown
Brown, Jean
On October 2, 2018. Born March 26, 1924 in Brantford, the daughter of Tom and Nellie (nee Uden) Brown. Predeceased by her sisters Florence, Ellen, Doris, Vera and nephew Bram Leach. Survived by her nieces Cathy MacDougall, Karen Essegern, Tina St. Amand, Lorie Russell, Debra Hughes, Jean Leach and Charlene Michelini. After receiving an RN designation at Brantford General Hospital in 1945, Jean went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Western Ontario. She subsequently entered The Salvation Army Training College and became an officer in 1952. Her career took her to many places, both nursing and preaching the Word of God. Upon completing the W.H.O. "Crash Course" and getting her designation as a Registered Midwife, she made her largest and most impactful move to Bombay (now Mumbai) India. In India, Jean ran the King George V Memorial Infirmary for almost 25 years. Serving the homeless, destitute and infirm gave her life meaning and purpose. Though she returned to Canada for a brief vacation every 5 years, India was her home and those she served were her family. Returning to Canada in 1984, she first settled in Toronto to help run The Salvation Army Evangeline Residence for retired Officers then back to Brantford where she continued to serve God and enjoy time with her sisters. Her service and dedication to The Salvation Army will be deeply missed and cherished by all those who served with her. Friends will be received at The Salvation Army 33 Diana Ave. Brantford on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery Brantford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army Partners in Mission or the charity of your choice.
