Obituary of Ferdie Verkley

Verkley, Ferdinand "Ferdie"- At the age of 101 year's 9 months and 4 day's, Ferdie passed away peacefully on the 4th March 2022, with family by his side. Ferdie was born in Amsterdam Holland on the 1st June 1920. After travelling much of the world he settled in Canada in 1958, living in Hamilton and then settled in Brantford. Ferdie is predeceased by his first wife Margaret and his second wife Joan (2010).He will be forever loved and missed by his Stepdaughter Sharon and her husband Andy, Grandson's Ian (Amy) and Stephen (Brittany) Great grandchildren Emmett and Nevaeh, and his family in Holland. He had an amazing life travelling the world and we will miss listening to his stories. Over the years he was very active, Skating, downhill skiing, golf, swimming at the Gretzky center everyday. He rode his bike everyday up until he broke his hip at 94. He played chess and most of all the last two years due to Covid he missed his friends playing bridge at the Beckett Center 3 times a week. Lastly i would like to thank his neighbors for the care they have shown him over the years. Family and friends will be received at the Hill & Robinson Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 30 Nelson St. Brantford on Saturday, March 12th, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of his first wife Margaret or to the Brant County SPCA in memory of him and his second wife Joan and their much loved cat Shandy.
