Please share a memory of Ena to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ena Nicholson, Nan, Nana (née Tindale/ Ingleson) October 9th, 1942- August 27th, 2024 From the village of Spofforth England, Ena leaves us this August 27th, 2024, at the age of 81, surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and especially her 5 grandchildren. “Nan” a role she relished, resided with her youngest daughter’s family in Brantford Ontario, where she led an active and involved life. Ena’s early career saw her as a very young nurse in England, before marrying a scholar and emigrating to America, then Canada, and traveling the world together. Ena was an avid foster mother caring for many children before adopting 4 kids of her own. With her late husband Professor Patrick Nicholson, they lived and raised their family in the town of Ancaster while both working at McMaster University. Caring and compassionate, she was an anchor and support to both her husband’s career and to her family. She is survived by her 3 children, Ian, Natasha, and Lara (Stephen). 5 grandchildren, Alexandria (Ryan), Portia (Bryan), Charlotte, Annaliesse (Evan), and Savanah (Cameron). And lastly, her 5 grandpups. Ena always left a kind, bright, and lasting impression on anyone that got the blessing to meet her. She was fiercely independent, selfless, and never wanted to burden anyone. She loved and strived to be just like her Nan. Summers spent with her 5 grandkids involved feeding the birds and squirrels at the Royal Botanical Gardens, playing outside in her backyard, and learning life lessons at ‘Nan’s School’. You could always find her in the stands at the soccer pitch enjoying her granddaughters and their longtime teammates' play. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by animals, from horses, to cats, to rabbits, and dogs. Ena’s greatest companions were Caspian, Harley, Hazel, Teddy, Ollie, and Toby. She loved donating to animal rescues and world vision. A heartfelt thank you to the Stedman Outreach Team, especially Dr. Bernadette McNeil, Shelley Groombridge, Lori Ramey VON RN, and Ellie Woodhouse from Homecare. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Brant County SPCA or Stedman Hospice Community Outreach Team. There will be a Celebration of Ena’s Life on Saturday, October 12th, 2024, from 1-4. It will be held at The Marshall Memorial United Church at 20 Gilbert Ave, Hamilton, ON.
